ORC Week 6 | It’s getting real!

I have a confession to make. I’m in love with a wallpaper.

For the office that I’m working on for the spring 2021 One Room Challenge, I wanted a video-worthy background for when I’m chatting virtually with clients or creating content. I wanted something bold but not too crazy and my new wallpaper boo definitely delivered!

After many, many wallpaper samples and changing directions a couple of times, I found THE ONE. Her name is Tulipa and she’s from Australia.

It’s been a long time since I’ve hung wallpaper so I wasn’t sure how we were going to get along. I considered hiring someone but figured it’s only one wall! What could go wrong?!

Luckily, not that much. My seams aren’t perfect and I should have definitely painted the wall black to match the paper background (like the instructions said…) but I’m definitely a huge fan of the look!

That was only one of the things I got done this week! It’s always a bit of a shock when things start moving from my head and my design plan into real life but all that planning and preparation was so worth it!

This week, along with getting the wallpaper up, I also started staining the built-in cabinet that will be on that freshly wallpapered. The stain looks amazing and I’m really happy that it came out a true black with a nice glossy finish. I think it will look great against the wallpaper.

The new light fixture is also up now! Goodbye, builder grade fan! Hello, my beautiful, bright semi-flush mount. If you were one of the people that voted in my Insta Stories about which light to buy, thanks for the help! Over 70% of the people that voted for this gorgeous white and gold semi-flush mount light fixture and it works perfectly! And provides so much more light!

Last, but certainly not least, we got a start on getting the picture frame molding up and it’s even better than I imagined. When I first purchased the trim, I got one that was way too thin. As soon as I bought it, I knew it was too small. I should have trusted my design plan! I eventually returned it and got a different trim that was more than double the size because size matters!

Scale is where a lot of people struggle when it comes to decorating and designing a home but it is so important to getting that polished, balanced look. I knew using that tiny trim was going to make it look like a DIY gone wrong so returning and getting the proper size was the right move. We still have a bit more to go on the molding but I’m confident it'll be done next week so stay tuned!

And that’s all she wrote. Or decorated. 🙃
